La Feria Celebrates Independence Day with Fireworks on Saturday, July 2, 2011

The City of La Feria will be holding its 5th Annual Independence Day Celebration on July 2, 2011.  This year we will hold an all day event at the Veterans Memorial Park/Sports Complex, 904 Pancho Maples Dr., La Feria, Texas.  The festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m.   Bring the family and a picnic lunch or purchase food from our vendors, RELAX and ENJOY the day!

As we have done in the past, we will be honoring our Veterans from throughout the Valley.  We ask that all veterans attending register at the Veterans Tent or download a copy of the form here La Feria Independence Day Celebration -Veteran’s Reg. Form, complete it, and bring it with you so that we may have the information to announce your name and acknowledge your service.  At 5:00 p.m. register for the Veterans only raffle of a 42” HD TV.  The winner will be announced at 9:00 p.m. and you must be present to win.

For the first time, we will be having a Barbecue Cook Off that will be judged with prizes awarded to the first, second, and third places in each category: Fajitas, Chicken Quarters, and Pork Spare Ribs.  Register for this cook off at City Hall, 115 E. Commercial Avenue.  Registration fee for the cook off is $120.00 per team.  Each winning team will receive a trophy and a cash prize as follows:  $200 for 1st Place, $125 for 2nd Place, and $75 for 3rd Place.  A People’s Choice Award will be presented to the Cook Off team that receives the most votes from the attendees.  Ryan Wolf (KGBT Channel 4) and Ernesto Rodriguez (owner of Don Beto’s Restaurants) are honoring our event with their contribution as judges of the cook off, and we thank them for spending this time with us.  We are anxiously anticipating confirmation from two other judges, and we should hear from them soon.

For the children, we will have lots of FREE games, water slides, and rides.  A children’s “Patriotic Parade on Wheels” is scheduled at 2:45 p.m.  For more information on the children’s activities, contact Christian Camacho at City Hall (956) 797-2261.

Listen to great music while you celebrate the nation’s independence.  We will have karaoke/DJ music from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Then listen to live music starting at 6:00 p.m. as the Non Prophet Band performs oldies rock music on stage until 9:00 p.m.

The National Anthem and a Flag raising ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m.

To end the festivities, we will have a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. set to patriotic music.  This has been the highlight of the event for the last two years.  We hope you come and join us for this celebration.  It’s your community, celebrate it!
