The City of La Feria will be holding its 6th Annual Independence Day Celebration on June 30, 2012. We will hold an all day event at the Veterans Memorial Park/Sports Complex, 904 Pancho Maples Dr., La Feria, Texas. The festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m. Bring the family and a picnic lunch or purchase food from our vendors, RELAX and ENJOY the day! At 5:30 p.m. the National Anthem will be sung by Christopher Austin and a Flag raising ceremony will take place, simultaneously, with the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 205 doing the honors. Immediately following the Flag raising, a Trumpet Duet will be performed by Mr. Ignacio A. Garcia Galvez and Mr. David Luna who will be playing America the Beautiful and My Country “Tis of Thee.
As we have done in the past, we will be honoring our Veterans from throughout the Valley. We ask that all veterans who are attending register at the Veterans Tent or download a copy of the form here: La Feria Independence Day Celebration – Veteran’s Registration Form, complete it and bring it with you, so that we may have the information to announce your name and acknowledge your service. At 5:00 p.m. registration for the Veterans only raffle of a 55” HD TV will begin and continue until the time of drawing which will be 9:00 p.m. The winner will be announced at that time and you must be present to win.
For the general public (non-veterans and veterans) we will have an additional raffle for a 37” HD TV, 1st Prize; Margaritaville Maker, 2nd Prize; DVD MPEG4 Player, 3rd Prize; and Memorex Clip & Play MP3 Player, 4th Prize. Tickets will be sold for this raffle at 5 tickets for $1.00, and you can buy as many as you wish. However, you must be present to win. The drawing will also be held at 9:00 p.m.
We will also have our 2nd Annual Barbecue Cook Off that will be judged with prizes awarded to the first, second, and third places in each category: Brisket, BBQ Chicken, and Pork Spare Ribs. Register for this cook off at City Hall, 115 E. Commercial Avenue. Registration fee for the cook off is $120.00 per team. Each winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize as follows: $250 for 1st Place, $150 for 2nd Place, and $100 for 3rd Place. A Grand Champion traveling trophy and a $250 cash prize will be presented to the team that wins the most categories with at least two wins in the main meat categories. In addition, we will have judging for Pinto Beans, Pan de Campo and Fajitas. Anyone entering the Jackpot Category for a fee of $25.00 will be eligible to win a Prize which will be determined by a percentage of the amount collected. First place will receive 50% and Second place will receive 25%.
For the children, we will have lots of FREE games, water slides, and rides. A children’s “Patriotic Parade on Wheels” is scheduled at 2:45 p.m. For more information on the children’s activities contact Christian Camacho Rincones at City Hall (956) 797-2261.
Listen to great music while you celebrate the nation’s independence. We will have karaoke/DJ music from 10:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Then listen to live music starting at 7:30 p.m. as the “Most Wanted” band performs on stage until 9:30 p.m.
To end the festivities, we will have a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. set to patriotic music. This has been the highlight of the event for the last three years. We hope you come and join us for this celebration. It’s our community, let’s celebrate it!
