The City of La Feria held its 8th Annual Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 4, 2014 from 1:00 -10:00 P.M. at the Veterans Memorial Park/Sports Complex, 904 Pancho Maples Drive. As part of the event, the City of La Feria honors veterans from La Feria and surrounding areas. All branches of the Armed Services are acknowledged, and a special no charge Veterans Only Raffle is held for a big screen TV. One lucky veteran takes it home!
As part of the Independence Day Celebration, the 4th Annual Bar-B-Q Cook Off was held, and we saw many competitors, both local and from throughout the state share in the prize money. There were lots of people happy at this event.
The celebration also featured free games and rides for the children, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, a friendly basketball competition and information booths. Our own “Good Neighbor,” State Farm Insurance Agent John Ftacek was our Master of Ceremonies and he did a great job! Live music was provided by the Furytones of Harlingen who played from 7:30 to 9:30 P.M.
And then the fireworks began promptly at 9:30 P.M. illuminating the skies for approximately twenty minutes. This is a sight to see!!!
