NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

On Saturday, April 7, 2012, the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the City of La Feria will hold a public hearing on a request by Duke’s Highway LP for a variance from the off-street parking requirements established by Section 22 of the La Feria Zoning Ordinance.  The variance is requested for the proposed 80-unit multi-family development known as Sunflower Estates. The required parking for multi-family residential developments is as follows:

        1.0 space for each efficiency apartment

        1.5 spaces for each one bedroom apartment

        1.75 spaces for each two bedroom apartment

        2.0 spaces for each apartment with three or more bedrooms.

Sunflower Estates is therefore required to provide 143 parking spaces.  The developer proposes to provide 129 parking spaces.

The properties which are the subject of this variance request are  Blocks A, B and C of Sunflower Estates Subdivision; the street address is 400 Lion’s Villa Avenue,  La Feria, TX.      

The public hearing will be held at 9:00 a.m. in the City Commission Meeting Room, 115 E. Commercial Ave., La Feria.  All interested persons are encouraged to attend the public hearing to testify for or against the grant of the variance or to submit written comments no later than Friday, April 6, 2012 to:  City of La Feria, Attn:  Planning Department, 115 E. Commercial Ave., La Feria, TX 78559-5002

Oscar Munoz will be performing his magic in the Cultural Arts Building at 122 E. Oleander Avenue at 1:00 p.m. and also again at 5:00 p.m.  His is a show you don’t want to miss.   

If you are a car enthusiast, we have a classic car show where participants compete for first, second, and third place honors and the coveted Mayor’s Choice award.  Vote on your favorite and stay for the results announced at 4:00 p.m.

The first weekend in December, students in third through twelfth grade will perform Aladdin by Dan Neidermyer on an outdoor stage near Veterans Memorial Park/Sports Complex.  Friends, family, and all community members are invited to come, bring a blanket to sit upon and enjoy the magic that is live theatre.   “This is meant to be a collaborative endeavor between the city and the school district to enrich our community.  The community will be treated to free, family entertainment and students will have the opportunity to act on stage for an audience,” said Mrs. Amstutz, one of the directors of the production.

Auditions for students to participate in the play were held on Tuesday, October 4 at the La Feria High School auditorium.  Another audition was held on Sunday, October 9 at 4:00 P.M., also at the La Feria High School.  Mrs. Rhonda Amstutz explains, “I am so excited for our younger students to have the opportunity to participate in live theatre.  There are ten speaking roles in this show and many opportunities for young actors and actresses to come make the story come alive on stage.  We purposely set up two different meeting times in hopes of accommodating everyone who wished to take part.”

City Manager Sunny K. Philip added, “This collaboration between the City and School will provide a venue for students to shine and will also improve the quality of life in our community.”

After the Parade, join your friends and family at the Winter Festival at the La Feria High School Parking Lot.  There will be vendors selling food, arts and crafts, and some carnival games and rides.  The Winter Festival will begin at 6:30 P.M. and end at 9:00 P.M.
