The City of La Feria will hold a Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the La Feria Municipal Complex to bring awareness to the immense need for organ donation. The City Commission adopted a Proclamation on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 proclaiming the month of April as “Donate Life Texas Month” in the City of La Feria to encourage all Texans to become donors. The City of La Feria is seeking Engineering and Architectural services for a Safe Routes to School Project. The Safe Routes to School Program enhances safety in and around school areas through construction designed to improve the bicycle and the pedestrian safety of school age children; encourage a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age; enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school; and to facilitate projects and activities that will improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of schools.
This Safe Routes to School Project is being funded through the Texas Department of Transportation.
Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) shall be addressed to: CITY OF LA FERIA, C/O CITY MANAGER, 115 E. COMMERCIAL AVENUE, LA FERIA, TX 78559-5002.
SOQs will be received by Thursday, May 12, 2011, no later than 11:00 a.m. SOQs sent via facsimile or by electronic mail shall not be accepted. SOQs shall be submitted in an envelope sealed with tape and prominently marked on the lower left hand corner of the envelope with corresponding RFQ number and title. Overnight mail must also be properly labeled on the outside of the express envelope or package in reference to the RFQ. Any SOQ received after closing date and time will be returned to the firm unopened.

ooberwetter Join us for the Fiesta de La Feria on February 26, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in downtown La Feria and enjoy all the fun!
The “Fiesta de La Feria” is a family oriented gathering with a goal of providing an opportunity for everyone to have a day full of fun and excitement. The Fiesta is held with the intent of bringing the people of the area and visitors together in the spirit of harmony, celebration, and goodwill.
This event is held on Main Street just south of Business Highway 83. A variety of live bands (download poster with music lineup here: Fiesta Music Poster2011), plenty of food, arts & crafts, and family oriented games will be featured at the Fiesta. Carnival rides and games from Kenny’s Funland will be available as a new added feature for this year’s Fiesta.
There are various dance contests held in the afternoon at the main stage, as well as a Grito contest. Each pays a $50.00 prize to the winner.
Part of the Fiesta fun is the annual Pie Bake-Off which is in its fourth year of competition. In addition, this year we have added a Cup Cake Contest. The top prize in each pays $35.00 and ribbons are awarded to the first, second, and third place winners.
The car show continues to grow in number every year, and the first 50 cars to enter will receive a Fiesta Car Show T-shirt.
Other activities going on during the day, are the art and photography contest which entries can be viewed at the Cultural Arts Center, 122 E. Oleander Ave. on the east side of Main Street. Also at the Cultural Arts Center see performances from the La Feria High School Ballet Folklorico, Dominguez Elementary students performing the “La Feria’s Got Talent Show,” La Cosa Nostra Youth Group, and Carlos R. Canas (best of the oldies). At 1:00 p.m enjoy the special appearance by Oscar Munoz performing his Magic, also at the Cultural Arts Center.

ooberwetter The City of La Feria will hold public hearings for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Applications for a Small Community Park that will be located at 412 North West Street and for park and recreation needs for an Outdoor Recreation Park (Veterans Memorial Park/Sports Complex) on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. during the regularly scheduled meeting of the City Commission. The meeting is open to the public and all residents interested in the La Feria Parks System are invited to attend.
