On Friday, June 20, 2014, the City of La Feria held its Grand Re-Opening of the Bailey H. Dunlap Memorial Public Library.  In the absence of Mayor Victor Gonzalez, Jr., Mayor Pro-Tem Esmeralda Lozano welcomed all the visitors and acknowledged the new City Commissioners, as well as the former City Commissioners.  City Manager Mr. Sunny K. Philip also welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming to the event.  Mr. Philip acknowledged all other dignitaries that were present.  A ribbon cutting was held outside the front door, and afterwards everybody toured the new areas and enjoyed refreshments.

The two story addition to the existing building provides a computer lab, men’s and women’s restrooms, water fountains, lobby and information desk, all located downstairs and a meeting/conference room, restrooms, and a small kitchen area on the second floor with stair/elevator access.  The total estimated cost for the addition to the library was $1,150,000.00 which consisted of grants and loans and local match to the grants.  Funders included The United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development (USDA); the Rockwell Foundation; the Trull Foundation; the Tocker Foundation which provided the furniture and shelving; the La Feria Economic Development Corporation (LFEDC) and a donation from the George & Grace Dunlap estate in the amount of $277,090.90.  Special thanks to all funders and to all who participated in this event.  For photos click Read More.
